Balloons and banners

Slogan-bearing banners suspended from balloons provided an aerial dimension to the choreography of public spectacle. The "sea" of red flags surrounding Tiananmen on the first two examples are representative of "the whole country having turned red" (i.e. the establishment of provincial-level revolutionary committees) by the end of September 1968.
