These two badges were issued to commemorate the 10th (left) and 11th (right) anniversaries of Mao's inspection of the aviation industry during February 1958.

 

 

 

The photgraph shows the Chairman examining a jet engine component (a turbine wheel) at the Shenyang Aircraft Factory during his inspection tour. The engines produced at this factory were installed in the Shenyang J-5 fighter, the Chinese-built version of the MiG-17.

The above badge, issued by the revolutionary committeee of the PLAAF's No.17 Flight School, has "The Front Line" inscribed on the bow of the ship.

The badge below right carries the reverse inscription, "Be Chairman Mao's Good Soldier", in Lin Biao's handwriting.
