These two badges were issued to commemorate the 10th (left) and 11th (right) anniversaries of Mao's inspection of the aviation industry during February 1958.
The photgraph shows the Chairman examining a jet engine component (a turbine wheel) at the Shenyang Aircraft Factory during his inspection tour. The engines produced at this factory were installed in the Shenyang J-5 fighter, the Chinese-built version of the MiG-17.

The badge below right carries the reverse inscription, "Be Chairman Mao's Good Soldier", in Lin Biao's handwriting.
